The Run for the Dogs Trail Race attracted 68 participants to the third annual event held Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Rocky Face Park. The race featured three race distances of 4 miles, 8 miles, and 12 miles. It was a cold race start with temperatures around 35 degrees.
For the 4-mile race, the top three males were Mark Nix (40:15), Kelly Pennell (42:04), and Archer Medlin (44:48). The top three females were Jennifer McGee (45:21), Kellie Roberts (45:38), and Brandy McBride (48:13). Masters Awards (age 40+) were presented to Brian Johnson (45:41) and Colleen Williams (51:50).
For the 8-mile race, the top three males were Adam Rabo (1:12:22), Aniceto Cruz Garcia (1:25:22), and Ken Partel (1:43:00). The top three females were Amanda Stackhouse (1:21:59), Shayne Rabo (1:29:15), and Kelly Leed (1:43:00). Masters Awards (age 40+) were presented to Ron Andrews (1:52:36) and Jennette Thompson (1:59:36).
For the 12-mile race, the top three males were Barry Thomas (1:36:09), Shawn Pennell (1:58:44), and Benny Vanoose (2:00:49). The top three females were Crystal Hurt (2:06:00), Angie Rhodes (2:10:03), and Kathi Russo (2:19:13). Masters Awards (age 40+) were presented to Don Baradell (2:09:06) and Lisa Loveday (2:53:29).
Runners hailed from all across North Carolina as the race continues to gain popularity in the running community.
Proceeds from the race benefited the Alexander County Animal Shelter. In addition to registration fees, each participant was asked to bring a donation of pet food.
